ANNEX

Annex is the starting point.

Here you can buy tickets, souvenires and get all the informations you need.

After World War II, the Tikveš Castle and surrounding hunting grounds were nationalized and used by the long reigning Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito.

In the period than followed many international statesmen visited the castel. Because of the protocol, wich does not alow the presidents of two states to reside in the same building, ahead of the visit of the French president in 1972, a modern addition/annex in the shape of an octagon was added to the historicistic castle.

The Annex of the New Historicist Castle is converted into a natural science exhibition.

NEW HISTORICISTIC CASTLE

The exhibition of history and natural sciences distributed throughout the New historicistic castle can be reached from the Annex.

The new historicistic castle was built under the order of the Habsburgs archduke Friedrich at the end of the 19th century. The reason for the construction was not having enough space in the existing castle in Bilje.

The representative castle was constructed on an elevated embankment plateau. The features of its style demonstrate that the casle was built in a historicist romantic spirit in the late 19th century.

The castle was built with bricks and the facades are decorated with simple historicist decorations.

In the 1970s a recent addition was added to the ground floor, i.e., a communication tract connecting the castle with a separate annex.

The New historicistic castle is converted into an exibition of history and natural sciences.

COUNTRY VILLA / OLD CASTLE

The County Villa, also known as the „hunting lodge“ or the Old Castle, is a a monumental building of the residential and hunting complex Tikveš.

According to its layout it is a two story building with neo-romantic features. By its stylistic features it should be described as a manor, villa or a hunting lodge of the countryside architecture, likes of which were built at the end of the 20th century.

The preserved maps show that there were multiple versions of the solutions made for the construction of this country-side architecturalpiece. The adopted solution was made in 1903, so the building construction should also be dated at the same time.

The main facade has an engraved mark of the highest water level from 1926 above the dor, when most areas in North-east Baranja were flooded after the breach of the dam.

The Country Villa is converted into a nature exhibition. Most of the ground floor is a space in which you can move in a circle on a stylized path resembling the wooden paths in Kopacki rit. Visitors can experience the world of mammals, birds, reptiles amphibians and insects.

In a smaller part of the ground floor visitors can experience fish fauna with the help of VR imaging.

TIKVEŠ COMPLEX CHAPEL

One of the significant buildings of the residential architectonic complex, which is not a piece of profane architecture, is the little historicistic chapel. obitelji Teschen.

An old photograph from 1910 shows that it is a relatively modest sacral object. The chapel was built out of bricks and constructed with broken rocks.2.

In 2003 the chapel was renamed into the chapel of the Papal blessing, because in the same year pope John Paul II visited Croatia and Osijek, and during a celebration of the Eucharist blessed an object, i.e., a carved book of the Papal blessing with verses dedicated to all lovers of nature and to all dedicated to the protection of nature.

BIOECOLOGICAL STATION IN THE TIKVEŠ COMPLEX

The object was built in the beginning of the 20th century and served as a residential object for the staff of the Complex. During the visits of statesmen, it was used as a military barrack for the on-duty soldiers/guards.

The bioecological station is located on the southwest of the Castle as an independent object, with its wider side spreading in the south-west direction. The building is dominated by a wooden porch going all the way around the ground and first floors.

The buiding has an elevated ground floor and a first floor total surface of 6772.
